Baja California Sur is in the middle of its asparagus harvesting campaign

The state of Baja California Sur consolidated itself as the second-largest asparagus producer in the country. The state has a little more than 7,000 hectares devoted to this crop. The harvest began about 4 weeks ago and will end in a month.
Baja California Sur exports its asparagus to the United States, China, and Japan. This crop generates thousands of jobs throughout the year, especially during the harvest, from August to September.

Almost all of this crop is located in the Santo Domingo Valley where, for years, producers have had to stop sowing grains such as beans, wheat, and corn, to look for more profitable alternatives or, if necessary, rent their land, sell it, or associate.
The economic spill of these thousands of jobs is impacting the local economy, generating jobs in rural communities where there are no sources of work, especially for young peasants who have no land.
The price behavior of asparagus this season is still unknown because marketers settle accounts with producers at the end of the harvest.
