Chile’s orange export season begins

The ASOEX Citrus Committee stated that the orange export season had already started. The country exported 279 tons in week 22, accumulating 444 tons to date.59% of the shipments registered to date are destined for Latin America and the remaining 41% for the east coast of the United States. Shipments to week 22 are 54% lower than in the previous season, which implies there’s been a slight delay in the season, stated Juan Enrique Ortuzar, president of the Citrus Committee. “However, the lack of rain and the relatively warm climate should allow the season to continue without inconveniences with a consequent increase in the rate of shipments.”

The Citrus Committee estimates that the country will export 89,000 tons of oranges this season and that the main destination will be the United States.

The oranges have been mainly shipped from the Port of San Antonio and to a lesser extent from the Port of Valparaiso.
