Colombia exported 2,376 tons of avocados to the U.S. last year, and in 2022 plans to increase that by 30 percent.

Jorge Enrique Restrepo, executive director of Corpohass, told Bloomberg Linea that with this plan, growers project exports to the U.S. to continue to increase, by 40 percent in 2023 and 50 percent in 2024.

“We currently have 262 farms authorized to export that add up to 7,918 hectares, and there are 313 farms under surveillance that add up to 9,236 hectares,” Restrepo said. “The great challenge is a greater qualification of farms to export to the USA and a generation of confidence in exporters to bet on this market in the long term.”

According to figures from Corpohass, Colombia ended 2021 with a growth of 25 percent in terms of tons exported to the world, while in value the growth was 39 percent when compared to 2020.

Restrepo added that, “it is important to highlight that exports have already exceeded $200 million to 34 destinations around the world, in some cases exports were made to the new open markets. For 2022 we expect a similar growth, of 25 percent or 30 percent at the end of the year.”
