SALINAS, CA – Despite recent rains causing seasonal delays across California growing regions, Ippolito International announced with great excitement that its 2023 California-grown organic asparagus program is officially underway.

“Retailers are keen to provide shoppers the option of organic, American-grown fresh asparagus. With regards to our California crop, we have definitely seen an uptick in interest,” said Dan Canales, Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing.

Storms that moved into the Golden State caused a two-week delay in the season’s start; however, packing and shipping of the beloved spring veg are expected to begin March 10, a release explained.

Overall, asparagus consumption has been on the rise in the United States, increasing by approximately 34 percent between 2010 and 2020. Ippolito considers organic asparagus a strong contributor to its spring vegetable offering, and this year, retailers and consumers will be provided with good quality products.

“Our organic asparagus quality is very nice, with sizing looking to be on the large and standard sizes. Overall supply should be abundant and ready for spring promotions,” commented Caleb Randall, Asparagus Commodity Manager. “Our organic asparagus deal continues to be a high-performer, high-visibility program. We have dedicated organic acreage in Gonzales, California, to this crop, and we are proud to be one of the few U.S.-based packers supporting asparagus with an American program.”

California is one of only four states in the country producing asparagus. The other states include Michigan, New Jersey, and Washington.

Queen Victoria’s asparagus will be ready to load at the Coastal View facility in Gonzales, California, available in an 11/1 lb organic format, as well as standard 28 lb cartons.
