March apple storage inventories edge higher than 2021

U.S. apple inventories on March 1 totaled 95.8 million 42-pound cartons, 0.8% more than a year ago and 2.2% below the five-year average for that date.

The U.S. apple report put fresh apple holdings on March 1 at 66.9 million cartons, 1.6% more than the inventories reported for last March. Processing holdings totaled 28.9 million bushels, 0.9% less than last year on March 1.

Meanwhile, the USDA reported the average fob price for U.S. apple prices for the week of March 12 was $27.32 per carton, down from $28.97 per carton in early February and $29.49 per carton in early January.
