Movement of Mexican asparagus through Arizona, California and Texas expected about the same

Movement of Peruvian asparagus through South Florida ports of entry expected to decrease slightly. Trading of jumbo slow, others very slow. Prices lower for fairly heavy supplies. Production in southern Peru expected to decrease while production in northern Peru expected to increase by mid-June. Some sales going to consignment as shipments face competition from domestic growing areas.

Movement of Mexican asparagus crossing through Arizona, California and Texas is expected about the same. Trading was slow at lower prices. Most shipments being booked at previously committed prices, with prices reported representing very few spot market sales. Production finishing up in the Obregon region and expected to move into Central Mexico by June 6. Movement of asparagus from Michigan expected to increase as more growers begin harvesting. Trading active at lower prices. Movement of asparagus out of Walla Walla District and Lower Yakima Valley Washington expected to decrease as most growers have finished cuttings for the fresh market. A wide variety in prices reported as supplies light and in too few hands to establish a market.

Mexican avocado crossings through Texas are expected to increase slightly. Trading was fairly slow, with prices on 84s lower and others higher. Shippers report only purchasing only what is needed to fill orders in an effort to wait out the high prices, keeping demand fairly light. Avocado movement from Southern California expected to remain about the same. Trading was moderate with prices on 84s generally unchanged, 32s and 36s lower, and others higher. Organic prices expected to rise until new crop fruit becomes available.
