SALINAS, CA – As I walk through the berry patch of my local store, I see the vibrant hues singing the song of summer for my eyes. It’s no secret that I love raspberries the most, and this versatile berry has a big following for a reason. With demand for the berry up, I decided to find out how the market is faring and what retailers should expect. I turned to category expert Nick Chappell for these quality and volume answers.

“The overall raspberry production between Mexico and California has been steady for California Giant Berry Farms over the last several weeks. Looking ahead, production is forecasted to remain steady,” Nick, Director of Sales for California Giant Berry Farms, illuminates for me. “The overall demand, however, has exceeded supply and prices are up somewhat. The quality has been outstanding, which is driving this demand with strong promotions.”

With versatile applications, raspberries are a supremely marketable berry for current and future summer merchandising programs.

For further information on the category, we also looked to additional sources such as PRO*ACT’s July 20 release of The Source, which noted that raspberries experienced transfer issues to distribution centers, which temporarily hindered the availability of the berry. However, production is expected to rise in early August.
