In the 2022/2023 season, Peru would be positioned as the world’s leading exporter of table grapes in volume, surpassing Chile.

Peru’s table grape shipments for the 2022/2023 season are expected to be between 550,000 and 600,000 tons and  over US$ 1,500 million in value.

This was indicated by the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción, Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, who pointed out that in the 2022/2023 season Peru will probably become the world’s leading exporter of table grapes in terms of volume, surpassing Chile, which had enjoyed this position for many years.

It should be recalled that in the 2021/2022 campaign, Peru was the leader in global table grape exports in terms of value.

Cillóniz explained that Peru exports table grapes every month of the year, however, it is during the October-March period where the largest volumes of this fruit are shipped.

In this regard, he pointed out that Peru’s table grape season will be extended, due to the fact that there will be a lot of early and late fruit.

“We are entering the important months of table grapes, in October we will have more early grapes, in December and January -which is the peak of the campaign- there will be a lot of fruit and in February, March and even April there will be a lot of grapes, because producers have pruned late,” he concluded.

The Association of Table Grape Producers of Peru (Provid) estimates that Peruvian table grape exports in the 2022/2023 season would reach 71.5 million boxes (each box is equivalent to 8.2 kilograms), which would represent an increase of 11% compared to what was shipped in the previous season (2021/2022).
