Summer Citrus Has Arrived from South Africa; Suhanra Conradie Provides Comments

SOUTH AFRICA – After weeks of teasers and updates, Summer Citrus from South Africa’s (SCSA) first conventional vessel has arrived, carrying with it a bounty of mouth-watering citrus for consumers to enjoy. The fruit landed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, with more volumes expected to make their way to the Midwest and Southern states later in the season.

“The arrival of our first conventional vessel has traditionally been a big celebration and something we hoped to return to this season,” said Suhanra Conradie. Chief Executive Officer, in an email announcement. “I’m happy to share that after two years, we finally had the opportunity to toast to the first vessel’s arrival in Philadelphia.”

Soon, SCSA-grown products will make their way to importers’ repacking facilities and then on to United States retail shelves, the email went on to explain.

As the supplier hits the end of week 28, SCSA has packed 55 percent of its 2022 crop. Forty-five percent of it has shipped on seven conventional vessels and containers, with the majority of the 9,000 pallets in the containers arriving in New York. One vessel is making its way to Packer Avenue, PA, and several containers will reach Savannah, Georgia, and Houston, Texas.

Over the last week, SCSA has discharged the largest conventional vessel that the company has ever shipped, accounting for 7,500 pallets.

“For the remainder of the season, we will continue to send weekly conventional vessels and containers in-between to meet the demand of the market,” added Conradie. “In terms of shipped volumes, our fruit basket offers 47 percent Easy Peelers, 42 percent Navel Oranges, 8 percent Star Ruby, and 3 percent Cara-Cara.”
